An Assortment of Random Stuff

You never know when some little bit of knowledge is going to be of use...

Today I had a background check with the justice department. Yesterday I went up to our local police and paid $5.00 to have a record check done and it was very painless. Today I felt like I was signing my life away.

One of the many forms I had to fill out (a pledge that I was loyal to the US govt.) asked if I was a member of any party that wanted to overthrow the US govt and if so what it was. I started to write in YES, the DEMOCRATIC party.

Then I saw that it additionally said "by violent or forceful means." I paused. Nah, not the Democrats. Todays Democrats are just a bunch of wusses, which is why George W. will probably win. The Republicans have certainly played a meaner, nastier game.

I am afraid though, if George W. does win, that Democrats are going to get mad. No telling what will happen when a bunch of already discontent wusses get collectively mad. I have a feeling they will all go more to the left, and that things could get nasty in the US.

I hope Kerry wins.

MENSA - Resume or not?

It depends on the job I think.

I have put it on a resume before but not always.

In both cases that I put it on my resume, my ability to learn very complicated information were what I wanted showcased since I didn't have an advanced degree.

People are so funny about it though! People are weary of any 'elitist'
group. Normally I'd leave it off a resume.

If people could only understand that mensa exists for a purpose - to help
the gifted, maybe they would ease up. Its a shame that I feel better about
putting my membership in the local Artists Group on a resume than I do
mensa. A lot of mensa activities and fund raising goes to pay for research
and to provide enrichment for gifted kids. People do not realize that it
can be HARD to be a gifted child or adult!

If the 2% of the population that could be in mensa WERE in mensa, we'd have
a lot more money to do things for bright kids, so I wish they would all join
up!

The other reason that I don't normally mention it is because some people
will then expect me to be perfect -which I am definitely NOT. I'm just
human, its just a club that promotes a good cause, I get great discounts on car insurance and travel, I have met and developed loyal friends all over the country - jeez, why do I have to explain it all the time?

I feel most people are not well informed about it. When I feel up to
explaining it, or really see it getting bashed, I might speak up. Normally
I think it is best to keep it quiet.
